CORROSION INHIBITION OF STEEL MATERIAL BY SOLUTION CONTAINING SOUR GAS

PURPOSE:To restrain sufficiently the steel material from corrosion which is in contact with a soln. contg. sour gas, by the addition of a quarternary ammonium salt compound having as a substituent a hydrocarbon group with carbon atoms no less than a specific number to said soln. contg. sour gas. CONSTITUTION:A quarternary ammonium salt compound of structure shown by formula, having substituting groups R1-R4, at least one of the group having =10, preferably 11-18 carbon atoms, is added to a soln. contg. sour gas in a small quantity as a corrosion inhibitor. Said quarternary ammonium salt compound is manufactured by the reaction of tertiary monoamine with alkyl halide, e.g. by the reaction of trimethylamine and dodecyl chloride. Corrosion inhibiting ratio of steel material which is in contact with a soln. contg. sour gas, to which is added = 20ppm said corrosion inhibitor, is maintained at =96%.
