PURPOSE:To measure easily constants of strength for the ground, by placing a plate at a set depth in a test hole dug into the ground, burying it by tamping with a set density, lifting it vertically and measuring the limiting value of the resistive power at the time. CONSTITUTION:After a plate 1 is placed on the bottom of a test hole 14 so that its upper surface is approximately horizontal, the hole 14 is filled back with soils excavated and the soils are to be tamped down so that they attains a set depth and a set density on the plate 1. Then an oil pump 12 is manually operated to feed with pressure oil a jack (not shown in the figure) fitted in a guide cylinder 5 monolithically formed with a base plate 4 and lift up the plate 1 gradually with a controled constant speed in the vertical direction. During the process, a limiting (maxinum) value of resistive power R is measured by means of a hydraulic meter 13. Values for cohesion and an angle of internal friction the soils can be computed by means of R thus measured.
