PURPOSE:To provide an austenitic stainless steel with superior resistance to pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, obtd. by limiting the amt. of C ontained to stabilize C with Nb and limiting the amt. of P contained to control grain boundary segregation of P with addn. of V and Al. CONSTITUTION:The austenitic stainless steel contains C = 0.02%, Si = 2%, Mn = 2%, cr; 15-22%, Ni; 9-20%, Mo; 2-4%, P = 0.03%, Nb = 0.4% (Nb/C=15-20) and V or Al; 0.08-0.5% or V+Al; 0.06-0.5%. By this compsn. bad influence such as tress corrosion cracking due to C and P is not exerted in high temp., high press. water. The addn. of the suitable amt. of Mo prevents pitting corrosion due to chlorine ions contained in the water.
