The bed lifting and supporting mechanism is for use in hospitals, and is mounted on a wall with a rail supporting wiring and gas pipes to equipment alongside the bed. At the top, a frame (5) protrudes between the wall (2) and a supporting portion (6) of the rail (3), bearing against this portion from the inside. It is equipped with a hoist mechanism (7) and a guide (8,9) for a grip and support actuated by the mechanism, this grip engaging with a bed (4) near the frame, so as to lift it clear of a movable bed underframe (11).
