UPFLOW CATALYTIC REACTION APPARATUSWITH ANTI-FLUIDIZATION MEANSABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREAn anti-fluidization device, such as for preventingfluidization of a vertically extending catalyst bed havingupward gas flow therethrough, includes a perforated platewhich rests on top of the bed by its own weight and movesupwardly and downwardly as the bed expands and contractswhile remaining in continuous contact with the top surfaceof the bed. A restraint is positioned above the plate tolimit the expansion of the bed to a preselected volume. Aslong as the plate remains in contact with the top layer ofparticles and as long as the bed is not permitted to expandmore than a small amount, fluidization does not occur.
