A process for making cathodes for mercuric oxide cells by pasting a depolarizer mix of mercuric oxide and a binder such as carboxy methyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol or perepex solution onto a matrix electrode characterized in that metal powders such as iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, silver, gold are incorporated with the mix.
