1286408 Polyurethane-bitumen composition NAPHTACHIMIE 24 July 1970 [25 July 1969] 36044/70 Headings C3N and C3R [Also in Division H2] A composition comprises a petroleum bitumen (I) and a polyurethane (II) in a wt. ratio I: II of 0À2 to 2:1. II is prepared in the presence of I from a mixture of 20-80% by wt. of a polyether polyol with a hydroxyl functionality of at least 5 and M.W. 600-6000 and correspondingly from 80-20% by wt. of a polyether polyol with a maximum hydroxyl functionality of 3 and M.W. 200-4000 together with sufficient polyisocyanate to provide a ratio of isocyanate to hydroxyl groups of 0À8-1À2. The composition may also comprise a mineral filler, e.g. tale, kaolin, asbestos, barytes or dolomite, an organic filler and/or petroleum oils. The composition may be prepared by first mixing the polyols with the bitumen and optionally a catalyst and in a second stage adding polyisocyanate. Alternatively, some of the polyols may be mixed with the bitumen and optionally a catalyst and in a second stage reacted with a prepolymer obtained by reacting the remainder of the polyol with polyisocyanate. The compositions are useful in sealing joints and covers and as a filling material in the electrical industry.
