The suction cup is intended for lifting a load. It comprises a rigid plate (1) with lifting eye (2) carrying a sealing strip (7) in resilient material at its underside to enclose a chamber (4) with connection (5) for a vacuum line (6). The strip (7) consists of a resilient metal sheet which is corrugated (7a,b) in radial direction and fixed to the plate (1) by an air-tight connection (8-10). The plate (1) may have a downward spacer flange (3) at its periphery whilst the lowest area of the strip projects downwards beyond this flange. The height (h) of the corrugation pref. exceeds that of the flange.
