The hospital bed (1) has a support base (2) and a bed frame (3) which can be taken off this base to serve as stretcher and placed on a separate trolley (not shown). The base (2) and the frame (3), and also the trolley, have corresponding guides (4, e.g. roller sets 5 in respective rail pairs 6 and 7) and coupling elements which permit transfer of the frame between base (2) and trolley. A roller unit (4) may have rollers (5) in longitudinal and transverse planes engaging rail channels (6) on the base (2) (or trolley) and rails (7) at the underside of the frame (3) respectively. The coupling between base (2) and trolley may comprise a projection which aligns respective coupling eyes for inserting a coupling pin. The base may be height-adjustable (14,15,18).
