Magnet wire with good winding and insertion properties - has a nylon-11 or nylon 12 top-coat having improved electrical properties in moisture environments

A magnet wire comprises a copper or Al (alloy)conductor, a completely organic base coat pref. of polyester comprising =1 insulating layer around the conductor and a self-bondable topcoat around the base coat, of polyundecane- and/or polydodecane-amide (nylon 11 and/or 12) comprising 5-95 (10-20)% of the total coating thickness. Opt. there is a dry lubricant over the topcoat. Use of nylon 11 and/or 12 for the topcoat improves the windability and insertability over a prior art nylon 6 or 6, 6 topcoat. The coefft. of friction (dynamic, film-on-film) of nylon 11 and 12 is 0.14-0.16 is lower than that of nylon 6,6 so causing an increase in the dimensional precision of coils wound in high speed winders e.g. motor stators or colour television yoke coils, and in the ease in wire insertion.
