For keeping fresh and preserving perishable products the perishable products are introduced into a closable thermally insulated container (1) and thereafter the atmosphere within the container (1) is controlled by injecting liquefied gas from a battery of gas bottles (3) thereinto through spray nozzles (7). To regulate the temperature and the composition of the gas mixture within the container temperature sensors (8) are arranged close to the top and bottom of the container as well as gas concentration regulators (9).
