According to this invention a flame-retarded poly (butylene terephthalate) composition is produced. This composition comprises poly (butylene terephthalate) and 5 to about 35 percent of the total composition mass of a condensation product derived from brominated phenol through the displacement of bromine from the phenol, where (a) the phenol is selected from the group comprising tribromophenol, tetrabromophenol, pentabromophenol and their mixtures.
