The mechanism (10) is intended for weighing (or counting) fruit or the like to produce portions for packing. It comprises vibratory conveyor troughs (13,14) feeding weighing units (11,12) or counters whose containers (15) each have a controlled gate (17) via which a weighed portion drops through a hopper (40) into a container (38) on an endless conveyor belt (36) moving to the packing unit (44). Each unit (11,12) is supplied via a double-track (13) and a single-track (14) trough each with a controlled retaining baffle (16). Each unit (11,12) has a weight-indicating (or quantity indicating) pointer which closes switches in three indicator circuits representing shortage, correct amount, and surplus.
