Abstract of the DisclosureA cathode ray tube includes first and secondelectrostatic quadrupole lens between the electron gun andthe vertical deflection plates to properly focus the elec-tron beam before it enters the vertical deflection platesA third electrostatic quadrupole lens is located betweenthe vertical deflection plates and the horizontal deflectionplates to enhance the angle of deflection as well as toproperly focus the electron beam as it moves from thevertical deflection plates into the horizontal deflectionplates. A meshless scan expansion lens follows the hori-zontal deflection plates and is formed of aligned tubularmembers having interdigitated sections thereby forming afourth quadrupole lens which accelerates the electron beamand expands it prior to being impinged onto the fluorescentscreen.
