Abstract of the DisclosureA process for producing ferrotungsten alloys by forminga uniform mixture comprised of a finely-particulated tungsten-containing mineral, such as wolframite, scheelite, ferberite,and/or huebnerite; a supplemental quantity of a particulatediron-bearing material and a controlled amount of a carbonaceousreducing agent which is agglomerated into a plurality ofpellets which are heated to an elevated temperature under acontrolled vacuum for a period of time sufficient to effecta reduction of the tungstic oxide constituent to the metallicstate and volatilization and extraction of the volatileconstituents in the pellets, and an alloying of the metallictungsten with the iron constituent, producing substantiallydense sintered ferrotungsten alloy pellets. The pellets aresuitable for use as an alloying addition agent in iron andsteel-making operations.
