METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING SLUBBED YARN

Abstract of the DisclosureA method and apparatus are disclosed for producing randomlyslubbed textile yarns. The method involves passing the yarn througha zone of fluid turbulence having a pair of counterdirectionalfluid streams maintained under different fluid pressures. The yarnpassing between these counterdirectional fluid streams is alternatelytreated in opposing directions, with slubs being formed at the nullpoints between the opposite directional treatments. Due to theuneven fluid pressures employed, the length of treatment in eachdirection along the yarn is not consistent, thus leading to slubsat various points along the length of the yarn. A fluid jet isalso disclosed for accomplishing this result. The fluid jet includesa pair of interconnected and overlapping passageways havingone or more fluid inlets arranged to direct fluid circumferentiallyaround it and with the fluid streams being counterdirectional toone another. The fluid inlets for each passageway are fed fluid atuneven or different fluid pressures to accomplish the random slubbingeffect.
