ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA process for removing bis-chloromethyl etherand l,1,1,2-tetrachloroethane from a mixture comprisingthese two materials and chloroacetyl chloride by contactingthe mixture with a catalytic amount of ferric and/oraluminum cations at a temperature from 50°C to 140°C anda residence time of from 15 to 120 minutes. This processcan remove bis-chloromethyl ether to a concentration ofless than 0.5 ppm and 1,1,1,2-tetrachloroethane to aconcentration of 0.05 weight percent, both based on thechloroacetyl chloride.18,465-F
