ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA loudspeaker assembly including a basket,a diaphragm, and a structure defining an air gap havinga magnetic field therein. The improvement in theassembly comprises a single-layer voice coil formed byconducting wire of rectangular cross-section woundupon a sheet metal bobbin having a longitudinal slitwith an end portion of the conductor comprising the coilfolded over from one end of the single layer to the otherend. The air gap structure includes a front pole plateformed with a central opening that comprises structuredefining an air gap and a notch extending radiallyoutward from the central opening of area slightly greaterthan the cross-sectional area of the folded-over endportion with the folded-over end portion passing throughthe notch in non-contacting relationship with the frontpole plate. A support structure supports the voice coiland bobbin in the air gap to substantially fill the airgap while being in non-contacting relationship with thestructure defining the air gap.
