This method for detection and prevention of risks of collision between a vessel equipped with an onboard radar and mobile or fixed obstacles identified on the screen of the ship's radar is to determine vis-à-vis said obstacles, taking into account the distance parameters, velocity and heading thereof, dangerous areas of heading and speed for said vessel to draw said unsafe areas of course and speed on a support, to plot on the same support vector vessel speed, to examine whether the end of said vector is located inside or outside of said hazardous areas of course and speed, a collision risk existing when the end of the velocity vector is the within at least one of said hazardous areas of course and speed, and in this case, to select a new velocity vector so that the tip thereof is located outside of all dangerous sectors heading and speed.
