In protective casings for medical thermometers, consisting of plastic strips welded at their edges, there is the problem of irritation to the body of the patient in the course of use in consequence of the outwardly projecting, relatively hard weld seams. When such an inner protective casing is accommodated in an outer protective casing, the usual ointment coating on the outer surface of the inner protective casing is moreover stripped off in the course of removal, especially again at the weld edges of the inner casing. The protective device exhibits an inner protective casing with inwardly projecting weld edges (b), which is obtained by reversal of a casing which is produced in conventional manner initially with outwardly disposed weld seams.
