The drum-type chopper disintegrates maize plants, including the grain' for silage. It has impact bars, or pegs, on a cylindrical housing enclosing the chopper drum between the stationary blade and the discharge shaft. - The bars (12), or pegs, have impact faces extending radially in relation to the drum and against the direction of rotation of its blades (7), having sharp top edges. The blades themselves act as impact members in conjunction with the bars or pegs. The latter can be mounted in a flat side chamber (16) parallel to the cutting plane.
