The electromagnetic roller counter includes counting wheels (2) with digital numerical markings, pinions (3) and a locking plate (11) each of which rotate about axles (16, 5, 25) which are parallel to one another and which fit between the parallel frame sides (18, 19) of a compact rectangular unit, made of plastics, in order to provide a lubricated bearing for each of the axles. The plastics frame has two projecting lugs, which enable it to form a snap fitting into the open end of a U-shaped yoke, which retains a long cylindrical coil and the core of an electromagnet. The latter attracts the locking plate (11) which is connected by a pivoted link (27) with a projecting tooth which actuates a ratchet wheel (26) at the side of the end counting wheel bearing the "units" digits. The locking plate returns under the action of a coil spring at the end of each pulse from the electromagnet.
