The load transfer switch for transformers consists of several switching sections which open or close partly simultaneously, partly successive in time and which are in part equipped with diodes in appropriate polarity. Each switching circuit formed by main contactors and resistance contactors is divided into switching sections and at least one switching section has a diode in parallel. The main and/or resistance contactors are subdivided respectively in two sub-switches arranged in series where at least one sub-switch bridged by a diode. When both sub-switches are bridged by diodes, these are in opposite polarity.
