Joint between steel wire reinforced rubber belts - differentially spaced textile cords embedded across belt join above and below wires

A method of making a joint between two lengths of steel wire reinforced rubber belt uses a layer of textiles cords above and below the steel wires, at right angles to the latter and which are subsequently embedded in the joining portions of the rubber belts. These cords are spaced closer together at the centre of the joint than they are at the outer extremities of the joint, while the ends of the steel wires are staggered in the joint region. The cords are of smaller diameter than the wires, and those in the load carrying side of the belt are shorter than those on the opposite side. The spacing between the cords furthest from the centre is several times the spacing between the middle cords.
