The valve controls the flow of a medium in a pipe, having a butterfly portion pivoting on a transverse axis. When approaching the closing position, this portion (15) moves for a distance (c) in which it does not rotate, either in or against the direction of flow. It can be disc-shaped, travelling at this point at right angles to the pipe axis, and either flat or spherical.
