The code converter, for PCM transmission systems, generates the binary output word in a certain manner whenever one or both digits of the forbidden tertiary code word being transmitted is distorted by interference. This generation is accomplished by forming both the sum and the difference of the amplitudes of both pulses describing the tertiary digits in the received code word. The sum and difference are then compared with given thresholds and one of two binary code words produced depending on the result.
