Gas turbine with waste heat boiler - has air input throttled and exhaust recycled to maintain efficiency at part load

The turbine (3) is coupled directly to a compressor (1) and through a gearbox (4) to a generator (5). There is a combustion chamber (2) between the compressor and the turbine and a waste heat boiler (6) on the turbine exhaust. To reduce the output when the load falls the throughput of the compressor is reduced by throttling of the incoming air. The fuel input is reduced at the same time. At the same time part of the exhaust of the turbine is returned (7) to the compressor inlet. The exhaust for recycling is drawn off after the waste heat boiler. This maintains the temperature relationships throughout the system.
