Fume removal hood, esp. for kitchens - where steam and fumes are condensed on cool hood walls without using fume extraction fan

The hood has a cross-section which is pref. trapezoidal, triangular, or semicircular, and is suspended from a ceiling, so that the height of the hood can be varied. Whatever its shape, the hood tapers upwards and air outlets are located at the top ends of the side walls on a narrow top wall. On the outside of the walls are water-tight containers and/or pipes, which pref. contain ice, a frozen mixt of salt and water, or liq. CO2. These materials provide a strong cooling action for the walls of the hood so that steam and fumes condense on the walls, and the liquid runs into a gutter formed on the bottom edge of each wall of the hood. No electric power is required, and there is no motor-driven fan creating noise.
