The power in a multi-purpose, hand-held, power driven tool is transmitted to the shaft (3) through a dog clutch (59) which is held disengaged by a compression spring (58). The clutch can be engaged by rotating an external knob (8). This knob can be locked by a ball catch in any one of three positions. In the first position, the tool can function both as a simple drill and as a hammer drill, in the second position as simple drill and screw-driver.
