Parabolic radio antenna with side screens - minimises scattering and gives antenna shadow region of 85 degrees instead of 115 degrees without screening

The parabolic radio antenna is designed with side screens in order to minimise the effect of side scattering. The side shields (1) are mounted on opposite sides of the parabolic reflector. The back walls (2) and side walls of the screens are set at an angle of some 4 degrees. With the proposed side screening, the shadow region of the parabolic antenna is 85 degrees, as compared with 115 degrees for an antenna without screening. A broad band operating range of 1 to 12 GHz is obtained.
