The cushioned body which is fixed to a plate for subsequent fitting on a chair or the like is made in one piece from a very porous synthetic or natural hair shaped body (1). A soft plastics foam strip (2) is incorporated in it. One or more wooden strips (3) are stuck into the body (1) which is then covered by a soft plastics foam cover (4) and there is a decorative textile cover (5) which is glued on over the top. The natural hair is preferably heavily curled or crimped which makes the shaped body resilient, light and bulky. The cushion body is preferably fastened to the plate (6) by touch and close fasteners or the like for easy removal for washing etc.
