High voltage ribbed insulator - has thick flange and central stepped bolt hole with embedded metal insert proud of top

The insulator for nominal voltages of 6KV consists of a moulded resin body (1) with a metal insert (2) at the top. The insert is of cast brass, and forms a contact member for the head of a securing bolt through the middle. The insulator body has a thick flange (1c) near the base, with holes (1F) through it for smaller bolts. Below this is a rib (1D) and small flange (1E) and above it are further ribs (1B). Between the lowest of the upper ribs and the top surface of the flange' four radial triangular ribs (1G) slope outwards. The hole through the middle has a step near the top, forming a face (2B) for the base of the brass insert. This has two small cavities (2D) inside, a small base flange and a larger top flange. The top surface (2A) projects beyond the top of the insulator body. The flange (1C) is thicker than the wall thickness of the body.
