The system is for transmitting currents over long distances. The loading of the transmission lines varies widely, matches the voltage to the load by using a matching system with small steps. The ratio between the voltage and current is the same as the wave resistance of the line within the load region. Tapped transformers can be used at both ends of the transmission line, particularly with fine steps. The wide load variations may be controlled by indirectly adjusting the required voltage by means of two sets of transformers which include main, auxiliary and tapped transformers with the stepped windings selected in a voltage and current free manner in an intermediate circuit. A reverser may be used between the stepped and transformers to change the polarity of the auxiliary voltage after passing through all the stages, so that after changeover, the transmission voltage sinks further.
