The communication system, with multiple access, has a trunk network with each branch having two opposing transmission paths and the same number of transmission channels employed as the number of these paths, the channels being arranged in pairs corresponding to the respective branches as in DE2703165. The signals transmitted by each station (2..11) to a branch are identified as internal or external coupling signals, eg. by an additional identification bit. Pref. all branches are coupled at one end to a branching node (1) with the other end of one branch coupled to a synchronisation generator (15), the other ends of the remaining branches being coupled to synchronisation reflex devices (12..14), each branch incorporating several stations (2...11).
