The container holds the hydraulic fluid in a hydraulic brake system and comprises a fluid-containing space (14) communicating with a float chamber (17) in which a float (18) operates a level indicator switch (24). The float chamber has a closeable vent opening (27) whilst the space (14) is connected to atmosphere. The float chamber may extend to the top (19) of the chamber (14) whilst the vent opening can be closed by screwing down a cap (20) on that top. The float chamber may be integral with the dome (19) containing the electrical level switch contacts or may be a two-part sub-assembly.
