The centrifugal adjuster has a stationary part, connected to the distributor shaft, and a relatively shiftable rotary part. The distributor has a pulse generator, consisting of an external pulse detector and an internal pulse generator wheel with radial pole teeth, coupled to the rotary part. The pole teeth (15) extend parallel to the shaft and protrude, at least partly, over the centrifugal adjuster (5). The rotary part (6) of the centrifugal adjuster lies between the pulse generator wheel (13) and the adjuster stationary part (4). The design provides an ignition distributor of a low constructional height. The pole teeth of the pulse detector may form part of an inductive, or a Hall-effect pulse generator. The reduction of constructional height is enhanced by locating the rotary part of the adjuster between the pulse generator wheel and the adjuster stationary part.
