The system recovers waste heat in fireplaces, using a closed tank (3) of suitable size, mounted inside the fireplace (1). A water inlet pipe (4) is connected to the tank bottom and an outlet pipe (5) to the top, the whole system being filled with water and heated by the combustion gases flowing upwards past the tank walls. The water is then typically passed through a pipe coil forming a heat exchanger for the supply of washing water etc. The inlet and outlet pipes can be run either inside or outside the tank as desired.
