Broken filament stripping device for tow processing cylinder - comprising tensioned wires crossing drum surface at acute angle

Heated cylinder which is partially wrapped by a series of multifilament tows for drawing or drying processes has a number of tensioned wire or filaments pressed against the surface of the cylinder at an acute angle to its axis in the region not covered by the tows. The wires cover the complete width of the cylinder and serve to dislodge broken filament ends from the surface of the cylinder, allowing them to be removed by brushing or suction appliances. Wires pref. comprise 0.3-0.8 mm dia. polyester or polyamide monofilaments which are inclined at between 15 and 75 deg. to the cylinder axis. Stripping wires are in intimate contact with the cylinder surface and effect immediate removal of clinging filament ends, preventing the formation of laps even at high running speeds.
