The optically coded keyboard for typewriters has a key lever (1) with a key (2) and a code shifter (3) for each key element. Each key lever (1) possesses slits into which the key (2) with its shaft is inserted, and two link joints (6) which connect with the code shifter (3). The code shifter is connected with a bow shaped spring (7) which is supported by a projection, being part of the frame, and operates by a nose shaped piece (9) on the key lever. The code shifter (3) also has several shutter tongues (10) which, on operating a key, interpose themselves in the paths of light (11) between the light transmitters and receivers and shield them for a short time in a coded form. This type of keyboard has fewer components than previous keyboards.
