Swimwear, esp. swimsuit or trunks, is based on elastic material (I), which is impregnated or coated with a layer of high mol. substance (II), at least on the outside. (I) is a polyurethane elastomer ("Lycra"; RTM), pref. made from filaments or yarn with a (spun) sheath of cellulose, cotton, nylon or acrylic. (II) is a polyethylene oxide of mol.wt. 100.000-5000,000, a polyacrylamide or a mucilaginous material, e.g. dextran or guar gum, and is applied in an amt. of 0.05-2 (0.1-1.0) wt.% w.r.t. (I). It is pref. to use a layer of (II) between 2 layers of (I). The coating reduces the friction in the water and hence the water resistance.
