Twin drive for magnetic tape recorder - uses belt driven flywheels to provide speed differential between drive spindles to tension tape

A small speed differential between the two drive shafts provides low tape tension. Two flywheels (4,5) are driven by a continuous belt loop (3) that is in contact with a roller (2) coupled to a drive motor shaft. Tape drive spindles (6,7) are co-axial with the flywheels and the magnetic tape (11) is looped around a pin (8) and roller (9). The tape passes over an erase head (12) and record/playback heads (14,15) that have an associated filter pad unit (16). Guide pins (10) ensure specific angles of contact with the tape drive spindles. An electro magnetic actuater (18) operates a lever (19) to push the tape against the drive spindle.
