Plant and/or animal extract for parenteral and/or enteral feeding contains as additional components at least one cpd. from each of the gps. (a) amino acids and their derivs.; (b) purine and pyrimidine bases and their derivs.; (c) mono- and oligo- saccharides or their derivs.; (d) acids of the citric acid cycle or related cpds.; (e) vitamins; (f) minerals and trace elements and opt. also (g) a 2-15 (pref. 2-6)C opt. branched alcohol and/or a 1-20 (pref. 1-6)C amino alcohol. Esp. the final soln. contains (per l) 1-5 g (a), 0.01-1g (b), 5-10g (c), 2.5-5g (d), opt. 0.01-15g (g); 5-20g NaCl; trace elements in the ppb range and other minerals in the ppm range. The compsns. stimulate cell proliferation (e.g. of epithelial cells, connective tissue and bone tissue) and are also useful as infusion solns. and in nutrition (e.g. they reduce food consumption but improve food utilisation).
