The block-shaped pick carrier has a fitting recess for insertion of the shaft of a cutting pick, with flat shaft, with vibration damping, as used in mining. One or more transverse holes in the shaft have plugs made of elastic material inserted in them. The end of the shaft facing away from the working tip protrudes from the carrier, and there is a peripheral groove here to accommodate a resilient metal or plastics securing element, in the shape of a buckle, protruding beyond the shaft end's cross- section. A metal or plastics cap may also be used, with its seam in the groove. Mfr. is simplified, and replacement accelerated while vibration damping is improved.
