Granule mixture size distribution measurement - using diffractometer and light detectors for staggered spaced spot integration ring sectors

The device determines the size distribution of mixed granules using a diffractometer and is applicable to mainly powdered mixtures in suspension in a gas or fluid. An accurate distribution histogram with fine divisions is generated simply including when there are particles whose dia. are of the order of the wavelength of light. An evaluation system contains several light detectors, each for an integration region of the diffraction spot. Each integration region is a segment of a ring (AI1,AI2---AI7, AJ1, AJ2---AJ7). Two sets of integration regions are used. In each set the inner boundary radius of a region is greater than the outer boundary radius of the next region nearer the focal point (50) of the optical system. The gaps between regions in one set are covered by the regions of the other set.
