The guide mechanism is for a link-type cartridge belt of the type, accommodating some degree of twisting between a stationary guide and a machine gun tilting about an axis running in the travel direction of the belt. Between the mouth of the stationary guide (2) and the inlet into the machine gun (11) are four coil springs (12,13) under tension. Two of these bear against the neck of the cartridge, and two other against the cartridge case, both in tangential direction. There can also be a shaft (5) between the guide and the machine gun, whose opposite walls hold the bullet points and the cartridge bases aligned in relation to the tilt axis (8).
