The materials consist mainly or solely of inorganic substances, and have a density up to 300 kg/cu.m; they can possess a structure which is fibrous, porous, or consists of closed cells. The finished prods. made from such materials also contain particles (I) which strongly absorb infrared (IR) energy, one or more absorptions and/or reflections occurring per cm; and the IR energy is re-emitted in a frequency band corresp. to the temp. of particles (I). The finished prods. contain min. 30 g/cu., of particles (I), which have a particle size of max. 5 microns, pref. ca. 1 micron, and may be distributed uniformly or non-uniformly in the prods. Particles (I) are pref. metals and/or alloys and/or metalloids. The thermal insulation properties of the materials are improved at low cost.
