The polar colour coordinate system is divided into quadrants, each identified by a number. The higher bits in the chrominance signal are evaluated first to determine the relevant quadrant. The equations for transforming the chrominance signal into colour signal and saturation signal for this quadrant are stored in a table memory. The colour signals for all quadrants are obtained from the quadrant number and the stored values. The amount of storage space required is reduced by subjecting the signals to a shift in position before addressing the table memory. This shift is reversed when the values are read from the table memory.. The system is fast, cheap and reliable.
