Insulation for cylindrical objects such as pipes - consists of modular half shells locking together via tongue and groove joints to make continuous sheath
Insulation for cylindrical objects such as pipes - consists of modular half shells locking together via tongue and groove joints to make continuous sheath
Each half shell possesses a tongue on one end, and a corresp. groove near the other end, so that butt joints can be made between a row of shells placed round a pipe or other object. Each half shell also has two longitudinal joined surfaces, both of which possess a tongue and groove, so no radial slip can occur between a pair of the half shells. The half shells pref. consist of two or more homogeneous or inhomogeneous layers joined by welding or adhesives; or one layer can be deposited as vapour onto another layer. The half shells can be joined together by adhesives; pegs; or outer straps or sheaths; and they may be made of transparent materials or elastomers. Used to protect pipes etc. from heat, cold, electrical fields, or chemicals.
