The flexible ruler can be fixed in position so as to allow accurate curves to be drawn. It comprises a flexible bar fixed to a mounting plate while a further plate with guide groove slides on the bar. The bar can be of rectangular cross-section and mounted edgewise on the first plate, so as to prevent it bending away from the drawing surface. The plates can be joined together by two articulated arms while each hinge point can have a protractor and a locking mechanism.
