The heat recuperator for an oil fired boiler uses a heat exchanger coil (9) between an inlet tube (5) and outlet tube (7) between the combustion chamber and the chimney. Under the coil is a tank (1) which collects condensate from the flue gases. Immersed in the collected liquid is a second heat exchanger coil (13) which preheats the feed water to the boiler. The level of the water is controlled by a float (25) attached to an arm (23) which operates a tap (15) which discharges fresh water into the liquid. This is also interconnected by a rod (37) with a second arm (35) controlling the operation of a plug (19) in the outlet pipe (11) for the tank. The system operates to control the acid content of the liquid.
